About Jane

I began working with young children, parents and teachers at the age of sixteen and never stopped! I graduated from Lesley College with degrees in elementary and special education and have been a special education teacher, an early intervention specialist for infants to three-year-olds, an essential skills teacher and a conflict resolution consultant. The emphasis of my work has been on helping kids uncover their strengths, so they can tackle their challenges. I use creative arts to empower children in their learning process and help to shape environments, which allow them to take risks.

Now, I spend most of my time writing. I have always been a voracious reader and have always loved words and the writing process. I am writing for children, because I've learned so much from them as a parent and an educator. My Bodyworks is my first published book, which combines five of my favorite loves: writing, music, learning, fun and my best friend, Steven.

About Steven

I discovered the piano at the age of two and began improvising. I even played the piano at my nursery school graduation! After graduating from the Hartt School of Music with a BA in music composition, I went to New York City to write for the musical stage, but soon left to raise a family. During that time, I wrote songs for Sesame Street, scored animations for the Children's Television Workshop, short films for ZOOM and composed, recorded, and produced award-winning music for children's books and cassettes for Knopf, Random House and Scholastic. Also, in the 1980s and 90s I released two piano improvisational albums, Pianoworks and Three Days in May and gave solo piano improvisational concerts throughout the U.S. I am active as a film and TV composer, having scored numerous award-winning films for PBS series, including POV, NOVA and CINEMAX. Farmingville for POV/PBS won the Special Jury Award at Sundance in 2004. I write chamber music and am working on two musicals, which I am hoping will open on Broadway.
